About Us
Hurricane Katrina wrought incredible damage all along the Gulf Coast area. While media attention focused on New Orleans, however, many forgot about Mississippi and how the bulk of the storm surge tore the state apart. Five years after Katrina, the relief effort continues, and there are still hurricane victims who haven’t received the aid they need.
We created MississippiRecovery.com to bring light to Katrina’s widespread effects in Mississippi. On our site, you can read about the storm’s toll on the state’s economy, infrastructure, and mental health, as well as the ways that the government failed to provide adequate aid and direction to the people there. We also cover the stories of hope: the widespread relief efforts and the charge to restore the state’s historical buildings and cultural heritage. You can also find out about ongoing relief efforts if you were affected by Katrina. If you were outside the storm’s path, you can find the best ways to donate your time and money to help get Mississippians the help they still need.
